My interests are broad, and can generally be summed up as "life". Why do animals do what they do? Why do plants grow where they grow? How did things come to be as they are, and what changes are happening before our eyes? How can we protect and nurture our relationship with nature?
I love the details: the little bits of beauty, wonder, horror, and amazement that lurk in every corner if one is brave enough to look.
I believe in the urgency of environmental protection, and I believe it's a pity that so many wonderful places and processes are being destroyed before anyone can draw a breath to say "wow". I hope that I can help people to live purposefully, with inspiration from and appreciation for the natural world. I also believe that most environmental degradation is akin to shooting ourselves (humankind) in the foot.
I enjoy rock climbing, surfing, and bushwalking with my husband and son, cooking (particularly baking), keeping fit (especially after baking), and looking after my garden and pets. I greatly appreciate a good book, too: some of my favourites include Gerald Durrell's chronicles of his boyhood and collecting expeditions. And most importantly, I like to keep learning.
"Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." - The White Queen, in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass.
