I'm getting close to handing in my thesis. It's been a tremendous ride, and I'm sure there are a few more thrills in store for me yet. Someday soon, I'll post a picture of me handing this beast in. Oh my!
I attended an ecological consultant conference this year instead of the American or Australian ecological society conferences. It was extremely interesting to see what kind of information is most useful to practitioners, and also really nice to see all the fundamental principles of research being put to good use. I would highly recommend attending a professional conference to see what kind of information is useful and how the presentation of research methods or results can make a huge difference to who actually uses your academic results. Attending such an event may be particularly useful for late-stage PhD or Masters candidates who are curious about what kind of career options are out there.
